Fingerprint Development Handbook

Home Office - PSDB The British Home Office has produced an updated version of this very popular Handbook. It has the wonderful sequential processing charts which tell you the types of chemical processes to use to develop latent prints on various types of surfaces and in which order. Please remember though, this is a condensed version of the Home Office Fingerprint Development Techniques Manual (see product code 96007) and some information, such as formulations, are in that Manual but not in this Handbook. The Handbook is supposed to supplement the Manual, not replace it.

Fingerprint Development Techniques

Home Office - PSDB This revised manual is the most comprehensive work ever done on the subject of fingerprint development techniques. The first edition was excellent and now, this second edition is even better because it contains more chemical processes and important safety information. There is a large section of color-coded charts listing a particular surface and the various latent print developing techniques to be applied to that surface, and the order in which to use them. Another large section goes into great detail of the mixing instructions and health and safety issues of the various chemicals. At the beginning of each chapter on a particular chemical, there is a color photograph of a sample of what the resulting latent print may look like. The pages are plastic-coated to resist tearing and chemical staining. This new edition contains new chemical processes, such as alternative Amido Black formulations, new non-CFC solvent systems for Ninhydrin, and removal of some fluorescent dye formulations in Superglueª. A fingerprint laboratory floor plan, information on choosing respiratory protective equipment and health and safety guidelines have been added to Chapter Two. At the end of most divisions, there are pages listing books and journal references. To meet all of the new safety requirements of the British Government, the Home Office rewrote the Manual to include all the possible issues involving the safe handling and mixing of these chemicals. Whilst some of the safety requirements in other parts of the world may be a little different than those in the UK, it is always better to use the most stringent procedures to guarantee your safety and the safety of your co-workers.
